After a false start in Iron Man 3, The Mandarin is finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In that first appearance, Ben Kingsley played Mandarin, but it was later revealed that he was the impersonator, an actor hired to pose as Mandarin for A.I.M. Now, the real Mandarin will become Shang-Chi’s father. With Shang-Chi comes the appearance of the Ten Rings. This is both an organization that the Mandarin runs, but it also signifies the Mandarin’s choice of weapons. He wears them on his arm in the trailer, but in the comics, they’re one of Marvel’s most powerful weapons. They also have many differences that can be very different from those in the movies. Mandarin became a criminal after his mother died of a drug overdose and he killed her trafficker. However, when the communist revolution began, the Mandarin went on the run as a fugitive and ended up hiding in the ruins of an alien space transfer. The Mandarin eventually finishes off the alien in the ship and steals ten small cylinders from the ship’s engine, which become the Ten Rings when the Mandarin puts them on his finger.
